GOOD THINGS COME

Oil on Canvas, 2006, 120 x 100cm

It is just me and the Rembrandt, alone in the room. Direct sunlight is striking the painting and diesel fumes from the buses outside drift in through the open window. I am thinking, I could touch it... just to actually feel an original. Then I notice one. You rarely see them, they melt into the shadows. And yet if you look closely they are there, silently in the background. All the great museums of the world are staffed by a silent army of guards, watching and waiting...  for people like me?
